WEBSITES FOR PLUMBERS & HEATING ENGINEERS

Built by a heating engineer who needed one himself.

I am a qualified heating engineer and plumber. In 2009 I built the website for my own firm because no agency understood what makes a plumber's phone ring. Seventeen years on it still does, and I build the same kind of site for other plumbing and heating businesses. Fixed price from £1,750, live in two weeks.

SOUND FAMILIAR?

Six ways plumber websites lose the job

Most plumbing sites were built by someone who has never waited for a call-out. These are the things I see on them every week.

  • The number is in a header image, so nobody can tap it from a phone at 7am with a leak.
  • One page says "plumbing and heating services" and tries to rank for everything. It ranks for nothing.
  • Gas Safe registration is on the van but not on the site, so the customer cannot check you.
  • The enquiry form is full of bots, so real customers get lost in the spam.
  • No prices, no call-out fee, no areas covered. The customer rings the one who told them.
  • Reviews live on Google and Checkatrade but not on the site, where the decision is made.

THE PAGES THAT RANK

One page per job, because that is how people search

Nobody searches “plumbing and heating services”. They search “boiler repair Exeter” or “emergency plumber Taunton”. A site that gives each of those its own page, written for that customer, is the whole difference between page one and nowhere.

Boiler repair and breakdowns

The urgent search. Same-day wording, the number at the top, what the call-out covers, and the makes you work on.

Boiler installation and replacement

The big-ticket search. Makes, guarantees, finance if you offer it, what a typical swap costs, and photos of your installs.

Boiler servicing

Repeat work. The price on the page, what a service includes, and a reminder sign-up.

Bathrooms and wet rooms

Photo-led, with the trades you bring in (tiler, electrician) so the customer sees one job, not five phone calls.

Emergency plumber

Leaks, bursts, no hot water. Short, calm, number first, areas you actually reach within the hour.

Your towns

A page for each town you work in: Exeter, Exmouth, Crediton, Tiverton or wherever the van goes. This is how you show up for "plumber in" searches.

THE PROOF

Our own plumbing site, seventeen years in

Heating, Hot Water & Plumbing is the site I built for my own firm and have rebuilt as the skills improved. It ranks in Exeter for the searches that pay, has a page for each service and each town, and shows the Gas Safe registration on every page.

Last year it was getting between eight and nineteen fake enquiries a day from bots. The slide-to-send guard on the quote form stopped them. Every enquiry that arrives now is a real customer, and that guard goes on every trades site we build.

WHAT IS INCLUDED

The trades website, from £1,750

Fixed in writing before we start, live in two weeks from the call where we agree the words. Or £79 a month for two years with nothing up front, then £39 a month for hosting and care.

Electricians, tilers, builders and decorators get the same site with their own trade's pages. See all the prices.

  • Everything in the local business site: six or more pages written with you, mobile first, fast
  • A page for each main service and each town, so each one can rank on its own
  • Gas Safe number, OFTEC or WaterSafe shown with the logo and a link to the register
  • The quote form with our slide-to-send guard, so the bots stop and the leaks get through
  • Your call-out fee, service price and typical boiler prices on the page, if you want them there
  • Google and Checkatrade reviews pulled on to the site
  • Google Business Profile set up or tidied, with services and areas matching the site
  • Hosting, backups, updates and the spam guard from £39 a month

QUESTIONS

What plumbers ask

Why should a heating engineer build my website?+

Because I know which searches turn into jobs. A boiler breakdown at 7am is a different customer from someone pricing a bathroom in March, and the pages have to speak to each one. I have run the website for my own plumbing and heating firm since 2009 and it still brings in the work. The agencies I spoke to back then did not know what a Gas Safe number was for.

Will you put prices on my site?+

If you want them. In my experience a call-out fee and a service price on the page bring more calls, not fewer, because the customer has already accepted the price before they ring. Boiler installs work best as a typical range with the makes you fit. You decide, and it is easy to change later.

Do you do the Gas Safe and OFTEC logos properly?+

Yes. The registration number sits in the header or footer of every page with the logo and a link to the register entry, which is what the schemes ask for and what customers check. The same goes for WaterSafe, OFTEC, manufacturer accreditations and Which? Trusted Trader.

I already have a site. Can you fix it instead?+

Usually, and it is cheaper. A redesign from £895 keeps your domain, email and Google history, redirects every old page and rebuilds the site around the service pages above. Send the address for a free check first.

How much does a plumber website cost?+

From £1,750 for the full trades site, fixed in writing before we start, or £79 a month for two years with nothing up front. Hosting and care is £39 a month either way.

Do you only work in Exeter?+

No. The build is the same wherever you are, and most of it happens by phone and email. We are in Exeter, work across Devon and Somerset, and are happy to build for firms further afield.
